| pretty straight foward question really. if you had your chioce between reading either(and you can only read one of the two) a science fiction or a fantasy novel(comic, webcomic, movie etc.) which would you choose? |

Fantasy.
I've always been into fantasy. It all began when I was a kid, though I'm not exactly sure of when and exactly what got me so interested. It might have been Tolkien's work. Later it was various roleplaying- and boardgames. I also began reading Fantasy novels. In the beginning it was mostly series based on D&D, like the Dragonlance books.
I also enjoy the Sci-fi genre. In fact, I've just today finished an excellent Sci-fi novel. I wouldn't want to be without either, though Fantasy is definately at the top for me. I think that there are more great Fantasy books than great Sci-fi books, though the opposite is true for movies. Sci-fi also tends to blend horror elements more often, though there really is just as much potential for that in Fantasy. |

| I have a love for both genres, but I do have a particular taste for Fantasy novels. My favourite author ever, David Gemmell, was a Fantasy writer, and if I was given a choice of only one book to read, it'd have to be one of his (though which, I don't know - that's a tough decision if ever there was one) - therefore, I would choose Fantasy over Sci-fi. |

As much as I do love the fantasy genre, I have to go with sci-fi. My love of science fiction is starting to cross the border into obsession in the case of certain authors. In particular, John Ringo, David Drake, David Weber, David Brni (lotta Dave's), Eric Flint (though he mostly does alternate history) and of course there's the classics, Heinlein, Wells, Clark, Aasimov. It's actually getting to be problematic, I have so many books to read and not nearly enough time. Fortunately there are always audio books!

Which novel, if you don't mind my asking? Also, I am curious to know which sci-fi books you've read where the "horror" element was predominant, as that has not been the case for me. Given my fondess of the horror genre as well, it could be fun to read a combination of the two. |

| honestly i couldn't, especially since a lot of the books i read tend to blur the line quite heavily, and I'm quite fond of both genres as well. |

The book was Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan. It was quite an interesting sci-fi detective story. I'm lookign to read the next one in the series.
As for the horror elements, that was more in relation to sci-fi movies. I too would love to read a good sci-fit/horror novel. |
