Wind is just starting to pick up, and a bit of rain. Major bands are about to roll in, but movement had stalled for a while, which is bad. The slower it moves, the more water it dumps on us!

Tons of wind overnight, and a lot of rain. The power is still on, but the cable is out, so no high speed. Phones are still working, so I'm on dial-up. The folks south of me aren't so lucky, though! We're going to be pounded all day, so I'll check in later if I can.

Must suck not having power..... I can't imagine going on without an Internet connection.....
More reason to move out this way Jeff!

Two hurricanes in three weeks is a first in recorded weather history. Some historical events are best viewed from a distance.
The area here is pretty torn up, but I escaped with no damage again. The whole county was without power for a while. Everything bounces back pretty quick, though.

Looks like things are stablizing again. Got the render machine humming, and the connection to the net is stable.
The town here is a mess, as is most of Florida, but we're digging out and life is returning to normal. A lot of areas are still without power, and to the south, quite a few homes were severely damaged and lost. We had four people killed in a town near us riding on motorcycles the morning after the storm when they hit a tree in the road. Two hurricanes in three weeks is not a whole lot of fun, and now Ivan is out there and could possibly head toward Florida.
Here's my backyard with about 10" of water during the storm when there was a little pause in the winds (my house is elevated with a crawlspace below, so no water inside) -
Believe me, I've thought of moving! Don't you guys have earthquakes, mudslides and fires, though?

Heh - I just started watching some WWE again, and I just realized I haven't seen the Hurricane in a bit. Is he still around, or did they shuffle him off?
Looks like Ivan is moving to the west. Good riddance.

As far as I know he's still around; he and Rosey are still listed on the RAW roster on wwe.com. He's probably on Heat. Truly an underutilized talent. |

Yep. He's a comics fan, from what I read.
Ivan may have passed me by, but now we have Jeanne to worry about!
Dang. |

Personally, I think the large tattoo of the Green Lantern insignia on his arm gives that away.
I agree that he's underused, but all you can do is blame Creative for not being creative enough to think up new stories for him. Though why he left Smackdown and the Cruiserweight division is beyond me. |

Personally, I think they should do something where Rosey gets a good whack on the head, goes crazy, and becomes a super-villain. That angle has money written all over it! |

Yeah, there's quite a few wrestlers known for being comics fans. Raven, RVD, and Rey Mysterio are the ones who spring to mind.... |

Yeah. Forgot about Raven. He always wears a Sandman shirt to the ring. |

Well, I've seen him wear Dr. Strange t-shirts as well. He also has a Starman tatoo on his shoulder... |

Dammit, now I'm going to get hit by Hurricane Jeanne. It's still two days out, but the current landfall prediction is right over my house. It'll probably change, but our battered power grid is pretty fragile right now, so I'm expecting more days without power again. This is really starting to suck.

This kinda reminds me of that movie Day After Tomorrow, that I saw recently... I mean its not the same as what the movie talks about... anyway. |

Don't know how many of you guys check out Big-Boys.com, but they have this clip of Hurricane Charlie ripping apart a gas station. Not exactly sure how the camera or tape surrvived though.

Most of it is just dumb luck. There's the constant horizontal wind, which is bad enough, but those massive gusts are what tear the hell out of things. Anything aluminum is a prime target, but most damage is caused by trees falling on houses and through roofs. I didn't have any damage at all, but neighbors just a few houses down lost roofs. If you're unlucky enough to get a few big gusts, then you're in for an ass-whooping.

Wind and rain starting to come in now. It looks like the eye is going to be a bit to the west and south of me, but we'll still have 70-90 mph winds after midnight tonight.
Hmmm. Maybe Hex Kitten's real name could be Jeanne Francis...
More updates, electricity permitting!

That is an under statement. I live beach side in Daytona. I cant wait to move back home. There is another one brewing in the Atlantic right behind her. The year I move down here we get the worst weather in history. Good news though. She seems to be losing strenght since she made landfall. Hopefully she stays southwest of us. I've never seen a storm change direction cross its own path and head in the opposite direction. Maybe some terrorist got ahold of some new fangled weather machine and he has something against the state of Florida? |

When I got up this morning, I had hoped it would have made more progres across the state, but it looks like we have all day to go. Haven't lost power yet, but there's a long way to go.
Lots of wind and rain right now, but it's not too bad here on the mainland. It's supposed to get worse as it moves north.
