I watched Blue Collar (1978) last night, and I have to say I was pretty amazed at how powerful a movie it was. It's Paul Schrader's directorial debut (he had previously written the films Yakuza and Taxi Driver), and it stars Harvey Keitel (Taxi Driver, Reservior Dogs), Yaphet Kotto (Alien, "Homicide: Life on the Street"), and comedian Richard Pryor in probably his best and most under-rated dramatic performances in his career.
I also watched Alone in the Dark, the film loosely based on the video game of the same name, directed by Uwe Boll. Um...... yeah.... there's a reason it's #73 on the Bottom 100 Films on IMDb. I will admit that I've seen worse movies before in my life... but not many. And while I adore bad movies that are laughably bad (like Troll 2), this was simply annoyingly bad. It probably deserves a MST3k-style riff-track to make it watchable... |

I watched Kung Fu Panda today. Great fun. It's not even out yet over here, so thank you Amazon.com. |

I very recently watched Le Samouraï (1967) and absolutely loved it. I don't venture into the French films very often, but I was glad I picked that one up. It's very minimalist, very slow and not much action, but it has a constantly building tension throughout the film that was brilliant. And before you ask, no, it doesn't actually have anything to do with samurai... |

Batman: Gotham Knight. Good movie that has six really good shorts. Each done by different Japanese animation studios. |

I just watched a couple movies yesterday... the first was Sukiyaki Western Django, directed by Takashi Miike, and absolutely loved it. It's a blend of western (like the title suggests) and period Japanese yakuza movie (like Yojimbo or the Zatoichi films)... in fact, much of the plot bears a striking resemblance to Yojimbo and, of course, to the "Spaghetti Westerns" of the 1970's. There's a cameo appearance by Quentin Tarantino, but the rest of the cast is completely Japanese, speaking English lines! It was sort of hard to understand a few of the lines (due to some of the actors' thick accents), but it was still easy to follow. The action sequences are pretty much the definition of "over the top", with a mix of guns and katanas all over the place (a nerd's dream come true ). Thankfully, it's pretty light and not as gory as most of Miike's previous films (he's the one who directed the infamous Audition and Ichi the Killer)...
The second movie I watched was Hancock.... *sigh*... I really, really wanted to like this movie. I loved the premise of a boozy, cynical superhero who does more harm than good (which immediately made me think of a MadTV sketch called "Leaving Metropolis", basically about an alcoholic Superman). The first half of the movie is great, and I thought Will Smith actually did a pretty awesome job portraying the title character as a bitter, cynical, and lonely superhero, mixing just enough humor into his performance that he becomes a loveable jerkass. Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman also did a great job, Bateman especially was funny... But by the second half of the film, well, things just sort of fall apart plot-wise, and I just didn't feel at all satisfied by the way they handled Hancock's secret origin... Oh well, you can't win them all, I guess... |

I want to see that. Speaking of Angelina's posterior, I seem to remember reading that she actually had a body double for showing her naked rear end in the Tomb Raider movie, instead of showing her own. I wonder if she did it for this one as well. |

Is this any good? I remember hearing about an animated Resident Evil movie, but I kind of lost interest in it.
I've recently been watching the TV show Oz on dvd. I love watching such shows on dvd, as I won't have to wait a week or more between episodes. I've gone through the first four seasons in no time, and I'm looking to pick up the last two seasons as well. |

It's alright. Not the greatest ever, but good. It bridges the gap between RE4 and RE5. The voice acting is done well, but the lip-synching isn't perfect. The action is exactly what you think it is. Over the top violence featuring lots of zombies and freakish mosters. |

Watched Midnight Meat Train last night, and before you ask, no, it's not a porno (though the title certainly is suggestive)... it's perhaps the best horror movie I've seen in recent years. It's a shame it only recieved a limited theatrical release.

I haven't watched it, but I've read the short story it's based on. It was quite good, as are many other stories by Clive Barker.
I've personally just watched Iron Man on DVD. I really think it's great, and I finally got to see what happens after the credits. |

Watched the movie "Gamers". Anybody who has ever played D&D can appreciate this one. |
