The whole reason most of these don't turn out good in ANY way, is because directors never like to stick to the story. They try to build up something new and different, using the same old things, from the same exact time period as the original...and it usually ends up blowing chunks down the drain.

You haven't seen Jackie Chan's "City Hunter", right? Now THAT is a "new spin on an old comic" movie I enjoyed
I mean, sure, we don't get real Ryo Saeba and his crazy gun skills, but we get Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee working together (believe it or not) and a live action Street Fighter the way it ought to be... with Hundred Hand Slaps, Hadoukens, Yoga Fire and so on and so forth |

I kind of disagree. I'm going to use said Fist of the North Star as an example. It was a modern B movie. The budget was so freaking low that allot of the props were built from pre-owned stuff. It was only partly due to the writing.
And whats this I hear about a street fighter live action that actually looks good? |

A scene in "City Hunter" sees Jackie/Ryo trying to fight his enemy with his hands tied in an arcade... opponent slams him against a Street Fighter machine, and when he lifts his head the opponent has turned into KEN! Insanity ensues, as the malfunctioning machine turns him into Honda, and then two helpful bystanders into Dhalsim and Guile. Despite their obvious power, "Ken" dispatches them all (actually, "Honda" knocked out himself with a failed Flying Headbutt)... but his apparent victory is spoiled, as Jackie... I mean Ryo, no, Honda... well, you get my drift... makes a triumphant return. As CHUN LI. Amidst other wackiness, our hero... or heroine, you choose... seizes the victory. Everyone rejoices.
What the heck, look for yourself
