Ernest Gary Gygax died on March 4.

He is best known for co-creating the first edition of Dungeons and Dragons with Dave Arneson, which has had an impact on all of Western culture.

He leaves behind his wife, six children, and untold numbers of greatful gaming geeks who shall never forget him.

Crying or Very sad Thank you, Mr Gygax. May the Seven Heavens great you warmly.

I thought I'd join in mourning Gary... I owe (indirectly) a lot to the man, since it's by learning to play RPGs that I opened to other people and started finding friends.
He was a smart one, and somehow built something destined to grow, adapt and evolve, a wonder among wonders in geekdom.
Just like another old man, Charles "Sparky" Schultz, he never stopped creating fun things, and kept in touch with his old self, something few people do.

He will be missed.

So long, white knight. You did well.

Having played in a game he ran at CombataCon I have to say I've never met a more unique soul. He took everything in stride (even the power gamer who died from the plague in the first 5 minutes of the game) and had an air about him thats hard to describe. Despite everything he still had a way to make you really see in your minds eye exactly what he was describing and making you feel like you were a part of the world he was spinning. He will be greatly missed by the gaming community.

Save us a spot at your gaming table 'cause we'll see you again some day.

This is the first i heard about it and it depreses me. Mr. Gygax proved to me and countless other geeks that if we try hard enough that we can do more and accomplish more than anyone thought we could. I hope luck smiles upon you in heaven. Roll true brave knight, roll true.*salutes*

I never really played D&D...but when I read about it, it still made me sad. That man made RPing more than just something we could throw together in our minds. He made it something actually tangible. ANd a good, clean, probable way for it to work out fairly for everyone.

I only recently got into DnD. It was probably one of the greatest contributions to the gaming world.
