Haha sorry I meant as an englishman the english language belongs to us english Razz try saying that fast three times Very Happy

Anyways do you happen to know what the difference is between American English and English English?? Is it just subtle differences in grammar and spelling? I know that's a minor argument but what really grinds my gears is when you buy a piece of software and I don't get the option of choosing British English and get stuck with "American English". As the founders of this fine language surely we should get the credit Razz

actually...that's the same thing about the spanish language...the form used in spain is different from the form used in mexico proper which is different from the form used in texas...different dialects
and to be honest...that's actually a legitimate point,to me anyway
but try this perception...if you come to america, you'll have a firm grasp of the differences of the dialects...
as a gentleman...i trust that you will use this thought to your advantage...bud sir Mr. Green

You are a gentleman AND a scholar, thanks very much for your suggestions, I'm a particular fan of Miss Barton, maybe cos she's an english bird Razz

I think you're absolutely right with the dialects mate, when I've been to the states in the past there are definite differences in accents. Just a question to you and any other americans, do our english accents all sound the same because a Liverpudlian accent is completely different to, say, a Surrey/Home Counties accent (what I possess)

And also I've heard that American women quite like an englishman's accent, fact or fiction?! I mean we need all the help we can get with our stubborn natures and close minds Razz

no,the british accents don't sound the same to me...i will admit that i have not met many true englishmen in my life but i have detected a noticable difference...not to the point of knowing the point of origin but the difference is noticable.
fact...i kinda think that perceptions tend to run quite narrow and a chance to expand those perceptions is always welcome...and also to meet a true gentleman is always a rare occurence.not just a nice guy but a man of truly noble character.
to call a wolf a scholar and gentleman, considering having the reputation of being brutal, viscious, bloodthirsty beasts, bespeaks of a open and inquisitive mind...truly the mark of a student of higher learning

You should definitely consider planning a visit to the United Kingdom in the future, although I'm afraid you will have a hard time coming across 'true englishmen' as I believe they are a dying breed. Crying or Very sad However I am ill qualified to make such an assessment as I am still in the early stages of my adult life so feel free to challenge my theories Razz

Anyways would love to chat all night but it's 01:17 here now and I'm knackered!! I'll try and reply sometime tomorrow although I have training with the Army in the afternoon.

Night!

Dave

Hello Alley,....

I don't need something like this to tell me you the most beautiful girl in the world. As Prince said,..."your the reason God made a girl". I treasure and care about you a whole lot. I will always be a true fan consider everything else. Thank you so much for being so kind, cool and putting up with my dirty little comments. Besides I know we'd really kick it anyway. Your birthday is the 14 of July and mine is the 17th. We need to celebrate this year together my treat. I'd treat you like a princess. Your a true lady. The most beautiful woman I've ever met. You know I'm here for you and always will be. Holla at your boy. It's just my "mbeal78" and then the Hotmail thing you know. I got some naughty stories to tell.

sigh where there's a post from Alley, you can always expect a completely random reply from mbeal. At least mine and wolf's chatting was based (loosely) on the topic but you went completely off topic Evil or Very Mad

try and stick to the topic mate or if u want alley to read it, start a new topic Smile

i propose a motion for creating a new subcategory named "AlleyBaggett.net MBeal78". This way he can happily write out his fantasies for the pleasure of Alley and our fellow forum browsers without completely disregarding the forum topic Razz

I'm not trying to be rude to you mbeal as (I'm sure everyone will agree) you write what every warm-blooded male dares not write on here Very Happy

Physical ~ 77%
Emotional ~ 70%
Intellectual ~ 65%
Actually Meeting ~ 0%

Total ~ 71%

My best match (100%) is with Jaime Pressly (7-30-77).

I've met one Brit in my life and I thought he was an Aussie at first. But he had been "in country" for about 30 years when I met him. So maybe that affected his accent a little.

I have a Southern accent since I'm from Tennessee. The first time I realized I had an accent was over a phone call to the NYC area (Brooklyn) with this girl I was speaking to. I started talking and she stopped me mid-sentence and said, "I love your accent!" I said to her, "Accent? I didn't know I had one...but thanks." People you see everyday, basically talk and sound like you, so nobody notices until they hear something different.

I can't usually pick up on out-of-towners unless they use non-Southern words, e.g., Pop, Soda, you guys, garden hose, etc.

My results:

Physical 68 %
Emotional 90 %
Intellectual 32 %

TOTAL 64 %

Only 64 %...NOOOOOOO !!!!!!!

My best matches:

Shalom Harlow 100%
Christine Stephen-Daly 100%
Jennifer Hoffman 99%
Tyra Banks 99%
Paz Vega 98%

----------------------------

I have read what you were talking about different dialects, accents and differences between the same languages spoken in different countries. I'm from Spain and I can tell you that there is an incredible difference in accent, words, grammar, style,... between the Spanish spoken in Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia, etc... There is a notable difference even in different regions of Spain, so I guess it's the same with English.

Thanks to the both of you for your insights into accents and dialects. It's an interesting point Down South that you made about mistaking an english accent for an aussie one, it happened to my sister too and i'm sure it's happened to a number of people. To me they sound completely different but to americans they must sound quite similar.

Also your point about slang is an important one, northern english definitely use more "colourful" words than, say, south of england / londoners but I think that this distinction isn't as noticeable as it used to be anymore
