Going to keep it G. Before you had posed that question about the size of a black man's penis. I was wondering what conclusion did you draw from the answers and why you posed the question? It does suprise me a bit that you've never dated a black man. I see you as kinda a free spirit. I figure you would have dated at least one guy,..maybe even had been with one. Aren't you a bit curious to see how a black guy would be in the bedroom? But yes,...I think you would look good with a black man.

She got a divorce when her daughter was born, she remarried last year when her daughter was three. So for the first three years of the childs life she only knew her mother as the authority figure. I don't understand your hardline stance against spanking. Were there issues in your upbringing to make you feel this way today Alley? To me there's nothing wrong with a parent spanking their child. Frankly, I'd be more worried about pop-culture violence and sex influences on my child.

I believe me and my wife would think the same way, for the most part, on how to discipline our child. If we didn't we'd do what every couple does, compromise. You talk about your man from time to time Alley. Do y'all see eye to eye on how to raise childeren? I'm assuming you do...or maybe you wouldn't be with him.

Lastly, I never feared my parents and I never hit others or had aggressive behavior. My parents smoke as well, yet I don't smoke. I fear that since I don't smoke, the odds are pretty good my kids will probably smoke one day.

If I can just interject on the issue of spanking. I think that a single swat to the butt with only just an open hand is a sufficient and sometimes necessary punishment. If a child is having an out and out tantrum they aren't going to respond to being scolded. I work in a retail business and have seen proof of that. For all the parent's effort to get their child to behave by trying to talk the child out of their tantrum, it only succeeded in fueling the tantrum more. It's in situations like that, when a child is just beyond reasoning with, that a stronger form of punishment is needed. Something that is out of the ordinary, which lets the child know that their behavior has gone to an unacceptable extreme.

Thank you for your responses, especially to mine about spanking. I respect your decision, but I just can't agree with it from my own personal experiences. I am a scientist, but social sciences I think are, for the most part, not science which is why I don't agree with the research on spanking I've read. First, the scientist always come in with opionion. Second, there are no hard facts that can be verified [example: throw a ball in the air and it lands, give it to someone else, have them throw it in the air with the same initilal speed and it will land on the ground in the same amount of time - every time. A person wants to find the lasting effects on an individual who was spanked, one group finds a majority are adversely effected by the spanking, another finds that a majority had little to no lasting effects.] Third, in all the research I have seen, they just refer to spanking - they never say what spanking is defined as in their papers. In my opinion, spanking is one or two slaps withan open hand on the buttocks only. Other people include, more slaps, closed fist, belts, ruler, etc. All of the latter I consider abuse. So if the person doing the research was looking at people who had any type of slap on the buttocks, they may find that the people had serious psychological issues later in life. Someone who claims to be doing the same research, but is only looking at those parents who give open handed slaps on the buttocks and distinguishes between those that slap and average of 1-2 times and those who slap 3 or more, they may find that those slapped 1-2 times have little or no lasting effects from this. This is the type of research I have found - contradictroy or not fully explained. And this is why I don't pay attention to it. I never felt fear from my parents for spanking me - only regretted doing something wrong.

AGAIN, I completely respect you decision and opinions. I would NEVER tell you that you are wrong because you're not - I agree there are people out there who have serious psychological issues from childhood abuse. I am just waiting to see research done that seperates average slaps on the buttocks with an open hand, those hit with and object andwhat type of object was used. If there is any paper you know of that does this, I would appreciate knowing about it - it may change my mind. In any case, I think that you would make a wondeful mother and I hope you aren't offended by my responses.

1. I thought instead of a post with a cheesy joke/boring question, I might ask something a bit more personal.
2. I'm just being honest.

Therefore I apologise to Alley and everyone else this might offend:

In esseence - Is there anything wrong with earning a living based on physical appearance?

I was offered a small time modelling job a few years back, but I rejected the offer because a) I was in full time education and b) peer pressure (pretty much the other way round here, you see my friends/family are very religous - I don't think they would've been too happy).

You see, the only reason I wanted to take up the job, in all honesty, would have been to indulge the narcissistic side of my personality - just so I could tell my friends "I'm a model".

Personally, I don't care what people do to make a living, I don't know them, why should I judge? However, I wonder how people can be passionate in careers such as modelling. Isn't it all about inflated egos and money? Or have I missed something?

Again, sorry everyone. But I'd be interested in hearing your views.

(Don't tell me its all about making other people happy)
